Calorie counting

Obsessive calorie counting can lead to many disorders, but there will be situations in which calorie counting will be helpful, for example to learn how to portion meals or to assess whether we are eating too much or overeating. Such information, but only in combination with research and knowledge about the work of our hormones, can be useful.

Calorie counting may also be useful for people with eating disorders who cannot regulate their appetite due to previous bad eating habits that caused hormonal disorders or strong emotional addiction to certain groups of products, especially carbohydrates.

In other cases, counting calories does not make sense because we are not able to assess it precisely, because minimally processed products will not have a label with their macronutrient composition, because our bodies metabolize given groups of macronutrients differently.

Believing that 100 kcal from simple sugar is equal to 100 kcal from protein is harming yourself and others to whom you are trying to sell this thesis.

Our bodies are not calorimetric furnaces, i.e. closed laboratory environments that always burn a given product in exactly the same way. Our bodies are open environments in which metabolic processes take place along various metabolic pathways influenced by external factors.

So, if calorie counting helps you at the initial stage of your diet, feel free to use it as another tool, but treat it with a pinch of salt, and at the same time pay more attention to the quality of products, eliminating all types of highly processed products from your diet.

Over time, your hormones will regulate themselves, and by choosing the right macros for your meals, your meals will fill you up and your weight will regulate to a healthy level.

How long might it take? No one will tell you or guarantee this, everyone has to find their own healthy pace, for some it will be 2-3 months, for others this process may take up to 6 months because it is difficult to get rid of bad habits and it is very easy to deceive yourself.
